I don't know whether Sikhs have conducted terrorist attacks in India itself. However, as far as I know there have been no attacks by Sikhs on the West (well, there may have been one lone White passenger on the bombed Air India jet, but the real targets were Indo-Canadians). Also, Sikhs don't seem to have any particular animosity towards the West or Israel for that matter; in fact, some Sikhs have sought sympathy from Israeli leaders by likening their plight in India to that of the Jews in Nazi Germany. And again, the turban doesn't raise the same social questions (women's rights, etcetera) that the hijab does.

One of the reasons that "most Westerners do not associate Sikhism with terrorism as they do Islam" is glaringly obvious: the sheer number of attacks by Islamic radicals around the globe. You find one terorist attack by Sikhs. There have been literally thousands of attacks - reulting in tens of thousands of deaths, primarily of other Muslims - by jihadis in the past five years. From beheadings of teachers, monks and school girls in Thailand, to suicide bombings in Iraqi markets, train bombings in Pakistan, and murders of priests in Turkey - it's being done to wage jihad in the name of Allah.

It's not Islamophobia to asssociate Islam with terrorism, it's being able to count.
